Totality Treatment Center offers virtual Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and telehealth Partial Hospitalization (PHP) programs for adults anywhere in California — including an evening IOP track for people who work, go to school, or care for children during the day. Virtual clients attend live, clinician-led individual and group sessions over secure video, with the same licensed treatment team, psychiatric care, and case management as our in-person programs in West Los Angeles. We are Joint Commission accredited, DHCS licensed, and in-network with major California insurance payers.

Who Virtual Treatment Is For
Most people can’t drop everything to enter treatment. They have children at home, full-time jobs they care about, school schedules, or active court obligations. Virtual and evening programming exists so those responsibilities don’t become the reason someone goes without care.
As our Program Director Nicholas Tandberg, CADC II, puts it:
✦ ✦ ✦
“People have children. They have active court cases going on. They have jobs that they care a lot about. Being able to have the flexibility to address those real-life concerns while getting the care and investment into themselves that they need is crucial.”
Virtual IOP and PHP at Totality serve California adults dealing with substance use disorders, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and co-occurring dual diagnosis conditions.
Program Options
- » Virtual IOP: 3 hours per day, 3 to 5 days per week — live video sessions
- » Evening IOP track: the same IOP curriculum scheduled in the evening, for clients who work or study during the day
- » Virtual PHP: 6 hours per day, 5 days per week — full-day structured telehealth programming
- » Hybrid: combine in-person days at our West Los Angeles facility with virtual days around your schedule
✦ ✦ ✦
“Many of our clients do hybrid so that they can get the impact of being in person, but also be able to handle all their outside obligations and responsibilities as well.” — Nicholas Tandberg, CADC II

What Virtual Programming Includes
- » Live group therapy over secure video — not pre-recorded modules
- » Weekly individual therapy with an assigned licensed therapist (LMFT/AMFT)
- » Psychiatric evaluation and medication management via telehealth, under Medical Director Ian R. Tofler, MD (California Medical Board, License C50160)
- » A dedicated case manager from day one
- » Aftercare planning that starts at intake — housing, income, medical needs, and community support are addressed alongside sobriety
- » Access to specialty programming, including nutrition groups run by Nutrition in Recovery (founded by David Wiss, PhD, RDN)
Our Approach: Structure, Community, and Life After Treatment
Many clients arrive having been through treatment before. Our clinical position is that previous episodes usually aren’t failures — they’re unfinished work.
✦ ✦ ✦
“A lot of times it’s not that they’ve failed entirely. They found a lot of the right pieces — they just haven’t been able to put it all together. That’s why you need a treatment team.”
Success after discharge requires more than sobriety: structure, community, income, housing, and medical needs all have to be addressed. That’s why every virtual client gets a case manager at intake, and why aftercare at Totality is a working process — walking through what each resource actually looks like, what to expect, and how to engage with it — not a phone number and a website on discharge day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a virtual IOP in California that takes insurance?
Yes. Totality Treatment Center runs a virtual IOP (3 hours per day, 3 to 5 days per week) available to adults anywhere in California, including an evening track. We are in-network with Blue Shield of California, Anthem/BCBS, Optum, and Health Net, and accept Aetna PPO and other PPO plans. Call (855) 619-5383 for a free benefits check.
Is there an evening IOP in Los Angeles?
Yes. Totality offers an evening IOP track — the same clinician-led IOP curriculum scheduled in the evening for people who work, attend school, or parent during the day. It is available virtually anywhere in California and in hybrid form with in-person days at our West Los Angeles facility.
Can I do IOP while working full time?
Yes. That is exactly what the evening and virtual tracks are for. Clients attend live evening or daytime video sessions around their work schedule, and many use a hybrid schedule — some days in person, some days virtual.
Does virtual treatment work as well as in-person?
Virtual sessions at Totality are live and clinician-led — the same therapists, group curriculum, psychiatric care, and case management as in-person programming, not pre-recorded content. For clients who would otherwise delay or skip treatment because of work, children, or distance, virtual care is significantly better than no care, and hybrid scheduling lets clients add in-person days when they can.
What does virtual PHP look like?
Virtual PHP runs 6 hours per day, 5 days per week over secure video: individual therapy, group therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management, psychoeducation, and case management. It is the most intensive outpatient level of care and is typically used for acute stabilization or step-down from inpatient treatment.
How do drug testing and labs work in a virtual program?
Testing and lab work are arranged individually as part of your treatment plan — our case management team coordinates local arrangements at intake so virtual clients meet the same clinical standards as in-person clients.
You’re not alone — and you’re not too late.
