OCD and Co-Occurring Conditions in Los Angeles
Totality Treatment Center treats obsessive-compulsive disorder when it co-occurs with another primary condition — a substance use disorder, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or trauma. Our Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs are built around substance use, mental health, and dual diagnosis care, and OCD symptoms are addressed as part of that treatment plan rather than as a standalone specialty program. We’re LegitScript-certified, DHCS-licensed (#190827AP), and in-network with major HMO and PPO plans.

Are we the right fit for you?
Being honest about scope matters more than filling a bed, so here is the straightforward version.
- We’re likely a good fit if your primary reason for seeking care is addiction, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, or a co-occurring combination — and OCD symptoms are part of the picture alongside it.
- We’re likely not the right fit if OCD is your primary diagnosis and you’re looking for a dedicated OCD program. Specialized OCD care centers on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) delivered by ERP-trained clinicians, and that intensive protocol is not what our programs are designed around.
If a dedicated OCD program is what you need, the International OCD Foundation’s provider directory is the best starting point, and we’re glad to help you think through where to look. We would rather point you somewhere appropriate than admit you into the wrong level of care.
How OCD symptoms are addressed in our programs
When someone in our care is also managing intrusive thoughts, compulsions, checking, or contamination fears, that work is folded into their individual therapy and psychiatric care. Treatment draws on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and skills-based approaches, alongside psychiatric medication management — medication is a well-established part of OCD treatment and our psychiatrists manage it directly. Group programming addresses the anxiety, avoidance, and distress-tolerance patterns that OCD shares with the conditions we treat as primary.
Where OCD and substance use overlap — for example, alcohol or benzodiazepines used to quiet obsessive thinking — treating both together is exactly what our dual diagnosis track is built for.
Our outpatient programs
- PHP — full-day structured care with clinical and psychiatric integration
- IOP — several sessions a week, built around work, school, or family
- IIP — a fully individualized plan for complex needs (private/cash-pay option)
Programs run in person at our West Los Angeles office and via telehealth across California. Learn more about our mental health treatment and dual diagnosis programs.
Does insurance cover this treatment?
Usually, yes — under mental health parity law. We’re in-network with both HMO and PPO plans from Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Health Net, Optum (UnitedHealthcare), and Blue Cross Blue Shield, and we also accept some out-of-network PPO plans, such as Aetna PPO. We verify your benefits free before you commit. (Our IIP program is available as a private/cash-pay option.)

Frequently asked questions
Does Totality treat OCD?
We treat OCD when it co-occurs with a primary condition we specialize in — substance use, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or trauma. We are not a dedicated OCD treatment center and do not run a standalone OCD program.
What therapy works best for OCD?
The strongest evidence supports Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), a specialized form of cognitive behavioral therapy, often paired with medication. ERP is typically delivered by clinicians with specific training in the protocol. If ERP is what you’re looking for, we’d encourage you to seek out a provider who specializes in it.
Can OCD be treated on an outpatient basis?
Yes. Most OCD treatment happens in outpatient settings, ranging from weekly therapy to intensive OCD-specific programs. The right level of care depends on how much the symptoms are interfering with daily life and whether other conditions are involved.
